The characteristics of magnesium alloy sheet!

Magnesium alloy sheet is a lightweight and high-strength metal material composed of magnesium as the basis and other elements added. It has the characteristics of low density, high strength, large elastic modulus, good heat dissipation, and good shock absorption. It is widely used in aviation, aerospace, automotive, electronics and other fields, especially suitable for occasions that require lightweight and high-strength.

1、 Main characteristics

Lightweight: With a density of only 2/3 of aluminum alloy and 1/4 of steel, it can significantly reduce the weight of components.

High strength: The room temperature tensile strength of deformed magnesium alloy can reach 500-550MPa, and the elongation rate exceeds 10%.

Corrosion resistance: It is not easy to rust in dry environments, but surface treatment is required to improve corrosion resistance in humid or corrosive environments.

Processing performance: It can be processed through processes such as extrusion, rolling, forging, etc., but it should be noted that its room temperature plasticity is low and its high temperature plasticity is high.

2、 Common brand names and applications

AZ31B: Commonly used deformed magnesium alloy with high strength and good plasticity, suitable for automotive parts, electronic devices, etc.

AZ91D: Has good casting performance and is used for manufacturing complex shaped forgings and mechanical parts with moderate loads.

ZK61M: Magnesium zinc zirconium alloy, with high strength and good corrosion resistance, used for aircraft load-bearing structural components.

3、 Processing technology

The production of magnesium alloy sheets is mainly achieved through hot rolling, cold rolling, or extrusion processes. Due to the poor plasticity of magnesium alloys at room temperature, it is necessary to control the reduction, temperature, and speed of each pass during rolling to avoid edge cracking or anisotropy problems. Cross rolling technology can effectively reduce basal texture and improve the stamping performance of sheet metal.

4、 Precautions

Storage and use: Avoid direct contact with acidic or alkaline substances to prevent corrosion.

Straightening process: Thick plates need to be straightened at higher temperatures, while thin plates can be straightened using either hot or cold straightening methods.
